Environmental and Climate Priorities:
1. Innovation to Fight Climate Change: We should embrace and invest in the use of new technology and innovations to fight climate change. Carbon capture and storage. Using AI for improvements to our clean energy grid to optimize energy consumption and reduce waste. Satellites that check large-scale crop soil moisture levels to prevent over-watering. Satellites that detect methane gas leaks for us to act on immediately. Hydrogen fuels for zero carbon emissions. AI-powered waste-sorting systems to increase the efficiency of recycling while reducing the risk of contamination.
2. Green Technologies: Let’s incentivize innovators and manufacturers in our state who focus on future green technologies. Especially those in zero-carbon cement, steel, fertilizers and plastics since these are some of the largest global polluters of greenhouse gas emissions.
3. Green Energy Scores: Upgrade all new permits for new building construction and retrofitting to meet higher green-energy scores without raising the costs of homes. New construction for residential and commercial buildings should be required to have electric charging ports. School buses and trucks need to go electric.
4. Wind, Solar and Hydro: Expand renewable energy throughout Oregon such as wind, solar and hydro. My goal will be laser-focused to make sure Oregon stays on track to be 100% clean electricity based on the Clean Energy Target bill deadline. I will attract and incentivize the creation of new manufacturing jobs for the components and devices used to build wind farms, solar panels, hydropower and battery energy storage. This is a win-win for both our economy and the climate.
5. Renewable Energy Projects: Phase out fossil fuel infrastructure. Establish a pathway toward 100% renewable energy projects prioritizing job creation for existing fossil fuel workers. BTW- House Bill 4083 was wonderful. So glad to see it pass.
6. Columbia River Water Pipeline: Submit legislation for the creation of a Columbia River Water Pipeline to heal the PacNW from drought and wildfires. A life-saving, community-building, job-creating water line. Patented by Dave Stauffer.
7. Stronger Pollution Regulations for our air, land, and water that affect climate change. Enact strong pollution regulations from industry, transportation, and energy sectors. Ban trash incineration.
8. Oregon’s Rivers and Oceans: Protecting our beloved salmon is very important to me. I want to invest more in salmon’s habitat and estuaries and the beautiful Oregon rivers they live in. Investments in Oregon’s coastlines which are being devastated by microplastics, ocean acidification and hypoxia. House Bill 4132 is great, but we can still do more to protect the beauty of Oregon.
9. Climate Education for Youth: I believe we should require all public schools to shift more education towards climate change cause and prevention. We are leaving them a mess. Wildfires, smoke blankets, heat domes, ice storms, droughts, ocean acidification. These deadly climate disasters are only getting worse and more frequent. The least we can do is prepare them and give them the tools for the future.
I believe in science.
- NASA trusted in me to be their public educator of science. I saw satellite data coming in real-time. I must fight for what I know is true.
- I took part in climate rallies fighting for our future.
- I created a Climate Change protest music video and sent it directly to ignorant politicians and their staff who were publicly denying climate change.
I am knowledgeable and will be relentless on strong environmental policies.
