When congress had a 12% approval rating and an 88% re-election rate we knew the system was broken. We will end gerrymandering in the state of Oregon by creating an independent, fully transparent redistricting commission.

A Career from Creativity

As Governor, I want to increase opportunities for artists to thrive.  By creating additional avenues for artists to sell their craft, more Oregonians will be able to make a financial career out of their passion. Our state has the opportunity to become a major hub of entertainment and our goal is to be welcoming to artists from every genre. The creative sector is extremely important to our states exonomy.

I propose developing Oregon’s Favorite as a springboard which talented Oregonians use to propel themselves towards success.

When I think of the arts, I am reminded of a time when I walked into the home of a politically active friend who was NOT in favor of giving more money for arts and music education in our schools. He said, those are programs, “we can’t afford to give more assistance to.”  It was then that I noticed the beautiful art on the walls of his home. His living room was decorated with a lovely sculpture of a horse. In his kitchen, he had music playing in the background. The bookshelves of his home were full of all sorts of literature.
Music and art are in our blood. They are a part of our every day and they make us who we are.

Art Makes us Healthy. Music Makes us Happy

When art and music flourish, a community becomes healthier and happier. Participation in art or music decreases mental illnesses such as depression and anxiety.  Art and music programs in our school should be a priority for our children. Money spent to support creative outlets for children is never money wasted.

I will support subsidies, tax breaks, and/or financial incentives for live music venues, art galleries, theaters, local-artist displays, film and musical production, Oregon authors, painters, and movie set producers… and all other forms and styles of creative art.

I encourage all creative Oregonians to check out the proposal I set forth in my Oregon’s Favorite initiative.  Think about ways you can participate in and broaden our outreach to artists of all kinds.

Music in Schools

How important is keeping music education flourishing in our schools?

Music is Science. Music is Mathematical. Music is a Foreign Language. Music is History. Music is Physical Education. Music is Creative Expression. Music Requires Research. Music is International.

Teach a kid music and you are teaching a kid the world.

Holding Politicians Accountable
There is one thing that unites ALL Oregonians – nobody wants corrupt politicians making laws for us. Most agree that getting money out of politics is the first step in preventing political corruption.

Money in Politics
Currently the pharmaceutical and oil industry, firearm manufacturers and other multi-billion dollar corporations are allowed to spend whatever is necessary to purchase political influence.

Money Influences Decisions
Did you know if new environmental laws are created that will affect the huge profits of the oil industry?

Their goal is to spend unlimited amounts of money to get a very specific and unqualified candidate elected into congress order to oppose those profit-losing laws? These corrupt politicians  are purchased and controlled by the corporations that got them elected. They will ignore science and ignore the voice of the people and often serve their master…those that spent millions to get them elected.

To be very clear, I am not stating that any Oregon politician is corrupt or being influenced by money. I feel Oregon has some good politicians fighting to get money out of politics. I applaud them. I am writing this article as a broad stroke towards many politicians across the US.
Let’s start right here in Oregon by getting money out of politics and showing the US how it can be done.

100% Funded by People
How do we get past money in politics? We could take care of this issue in a single election cycle if we all acted together. Let’s only vote for candidates who are 100% supported by individuals.  When someone is 100% funded by the people then they are 100% working for the people and will have no conflicts of interest.

Star Emblem
As your Governor, it will be my recommendation that we implement the Star Emblem system. It goes something like this:
If a candidate running for office is 100% small donor public financed then that candidate will receive a *Star Emblem* next to their name on the voting pamphlet. That star will represent confidence and trust in our politicians.

The Big 5

Special Interest Groups, Super-PACS and Corporate Lobbyists spend hundreds of millions every election purchasing politicians to serve their needs over the needs of the people… and they have been extremely successful thus far.

It’s No Longer A Secret

When Industries or Corporations are spending millions towards political parties and politicians they are expecting something in return. Secret favors. They spend for ONE reason only. To influence a politicians decision making. The conflict of interest is astronomical.

As your Governor I want to focus for a moment on 5 specific industries that are directly linked to death or destruction. The Big 5.

WHO ARE THE BIG 5?

1. The Gas/Coal/Fracking and Oil Industries

2. The NRA and Gun Industries

3. The Military Industry and Weapons of War Manufacturers

4. The Pharmaceutical and Health Insurance Industries

5. The Big Banks and Finance Services Industry

Creating Transparency

These BIG-5 have done much to break the trust of our citizens and the foundation of our democracy nationwide.

I want Oregon to be a leader in election transparency.  There should be clear, documented, factual answers to these extremely important questions:

• Which politicians are the BIG-5 donating to?
• Are there any former politicians working as lobbyist for the BIG-5? Who?
• How much do both political parties receive in contributions from each of the BIG-5?
• Are there any politicians that are receiving campaign money from ALL five of the BIG-5?
• Of the politicians that have received donations from the BIG-5, how did they vote when it came to a policy or law that directed affected the BIG-5?
• What is the total marketing dollars any of the BIG-5 has spent in print, TV, radio or social media advertising that directly benefits any specific politician?

Contribution from the the BIG-5

As your Governor, I will spearhead a program stating that any elected official who has taken campaign contributions from any of the BIG-5 must be recused from voting on or creating any bills or laws that involves any of the BIG-5. Voting against your constituents because of financial benefits is a hallmark of corruption.

EVERYONE should be in favor of this…unless of course you are one of those slimy politician benefiting nicely because of money in politics from the BIG-5.
